Bill Brown, Citadel’s President & CEO

Bill Brown is President and Chief Executive Officer of Citadel Credit Union, one of the nation’s largest credit unions, headquartered in the Philadelphia area serving more than 290,000 members and managing over $6.9 billion in assets. He leads with a straightforward conviction: growth matters most when it improves people’s lives. At Citadel, that means pairing financial strength and innovation with personal service, sound stewardship, and a genuine commitment to members, employees, and the communities the credit union calls home.

Since joining Citadel in late 2023, Bill has focused on expanding community impact, strengthening the member experience, and building the organization’s reach and capabilities for the long term. He was drawn to Citadel by its people-first culture, deep local roots, and ability to make a meaningful difference at scale. His approach is grounded in listening, learning, and bringing people together around a shared purpose, while giving talented teams the trust and support to do their best work.

Bill brings more than 30 years of financial-services leadership across global, regional, and community institutions, including Citi, HSBC, BNY, Investors Bank, and Dime. His experience spans retail and digital banking, business and wealth management, consumer and small-business lending, client service, and operational risk. Across those roles, he has helped organizations navigate change, strengthen performance, and develop future leaders, always with an emphasis on disciplined execution and the human impact of each decision.

Before entering financial services, Bill served nearly eight years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer, Patrol Plane Mission Commander, and Foreign Affairs Officer at the Pentagon. He earned a BA in International Relations, with a minor in Geography from Boston University.

Bill’s service extends beyond Citadel. He serves on the Board of Directors of The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia and, America’s Credit Unions’ Advocacy Policy Committee and Affordable Housing Task Force. He is also an associate member of the Origence Board of Directors, a member of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Corporate Council, and a member of the CrossState Credit Union Association’s Government Relations and Regulatory Review Committee. Through these roles, he works alongside others to strengthen the region, broaden access to financial opportunities, and support institutions that help communities thrive.

For Bill, leadership is an act of service. He is proud to represent Citadel, but quick to credit its employees, members, partners, and communities for the organization’s strength. His goal is to honor what has made Citadel special for nearly 90 years while helping it remain trusted, relevant, and ready to serve the next generation.
